Year 3

It is hard to believe that the end of the school year has arrived! The year’s end always brings with it tremendous sense of accomplishment. Our students have been involved in an extraordinary number of activities. Of course, we should not forget the tremendous amount of learning which has taken place during the year. Throughout all these activities our students have demonstrated great hard work and character!

Here is what the Year 3 students liked the most this year:

My favourite activity throughout the year was when we went to Aquamoves for swimming lessons because I love to jump in the pool. - Khadijah Khan

Throughout my first year at Sirius College, I had fun and my favourite activity was the Fun Run because we had to splash colours on one another. - Asher Baig

My favourite activity was our excursion to Twisted Science, Bendigo. The fun part was when we went on the gigantic slide. - Hamza Sheriff

For me the best activity of 2018 was our visit to the Kyabram Fauna Park. We fed the kangaroos, got chased by emus and we had turns holding the snake and other reptiles. - Zuhair Abbas

My best activity throughout the year was Year 3 /4 camp. We did a lot of activities including archery, horse riding, treasure hunt and night walk. - Feyza Engin

I liked going to the camp. We did paddle boating, horse riding and the obstacle course. - Ercan Uguz

I would like to congratulate each and every child for their hard work and many achievements throughout the year. Enjoy the summer holidays and we look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for many achievements and successes next year.

The six weeks summer holidays are a long time for children and as a result, many vital skills get rusty and even forgotten. Hence, I want the children to practise some of the important skills that they will continue to need next year.

Here are some fun activities so that you and your children make the most of the lazy, hazy days to come!

  1. Teach kids to cook with the step-by-step lessons and recipes at Cooking with Kids. The site also includes measurement reminders, safety tips, and suggestions for involving kids in the cooking process.
  2. Make homemade bubble solution and experiment with such unique bubble-blowing tools as strings, milk containers, and garbage can lids.
  3. Create musical instruments from materials found around the house. Need help? Enchanted Learning provides instructions for such Musical Instruments as a rattle, box guitar, maraca, and rain stick.
  4. Read aloud your own favourite myths or fairy tales. Discuss the stories with your child. Then invite your child to choose a favourite story, and together make a diorama depicting a pivotal moment in the tale.
  5. Have your child follow instructions to build the Best Paper Airplane in the World. Then ask your child to design an original paper airplane and diagram the steps for constructing it, so another family member can recreate it!
  6. Kids rarely have the opportunity to design their own rooms to best suit their individual needs. Invite your child to devote some thought to ways to improve his or her living space. Explore with your child Kids' Room Decorating Ideas to find ways your child might individualize his or her room.
  7. Invite your child to play a Maths game and record his or her scores on a sheet set up like the illustration below. Then have your child graph the results of the Game Challenge chart. Celebrate your child's effort with a special treat.
